There is an app for almost everything these days….and people are downloading them. As of June 2014, more than 75 billion mobile apps had been downloaded from the Apple App Store, and as we approach the end of the year, app downloads are expected to surpass over 179 billion. App downloads will only continue to grow; they’re expected to reach almost 270 billion by 2017. Forbes and Statista teamed up to create an infographic that gives an incredible overview of mobile app usage and projected usage over the next several years.

How many apps do you have on your phone? We polled 250+ people across the United States on Qriously, and found that it was almost an exactly even split across answers. 86 people said they have between 1-5 apps, 83 said between 6-10, and 86 said they have 11+ apps downloaded on their phones.

According to the infographic, 20% of the downloaded apps are games, which makes sense as mobile gaming is a huge part of many people’s lives. In terms of the most popular smartphone apps, social media takes the cake. Nearly 75% of smartphone users in the United States have Facebook downloaded on their phones; in fact, there are nearly 400 million mobile-only Facebook users around the world.
