SMS Marketing: Top Five Services

Camelia Gendreau July 28, 2014

Text message marketing tools enable brands to reach consumers wherever they are, especially when on the move. Plus, they allow for easy and fast fine-tuning and usually offer contact list management, track response rates and audience reach. When selecting from among several options, here are a few things to look out for: general ease of use; main features – things like polling, keywords, auto-responders; and finally, reporting tools, which should offer you a clear picture of delivery rates, poll results and all other conversations you are having with your contacts.

With that in mind, here are the top five best text message marketing services out there:

5. Mobivity

With a number of great features like their ‘Live Monitor’ and professional-looking result reports, Mobivity is a solid contender. The Live Monitor gives you a handy overview of which contacts were reached through SMS and who voted on your polls by using a specific keyword. Every feature you would expect is present (Free Inbound Messaging, Auto-respond, Scheduled Messages, Voting and Polling, etc) except for web sign-up for the service. Plans start at $49/month and can be built out further depending on your needs.

4. ProTexting

ProTexting really excels at reporting back on your results, offering not only a view of responses and status of messages sent but also reveals the contacts’ carriers. They support text-to-win contests, mobile coupons, QR codes and offer short codes, but there’s a limit to how much you can personalize your messages. Self-managed accounts come in all sizes, from $69/month for an “Economy” account to $899/month for a “Corporate” one.

3. Trumpia

Trumpia really offers an embarrassment of choices when it comes to communication tools and there’s almost nothing you can’t do with this service. Sending a mass text message? Check! Creating groups, inserting coupons and sending appointment reminders? Check, check and check! Trumpia also lets you post content directly onto Facebook and Twitter feeds. The only complaints: with so many choices, the interface sometimes feels cluttered and, at $95 starting point, Trumpia is on the pricey side.

2.  SumoText

When all is said and done, SumoText rises to the top thanks to its robust feature set and reporting capabilities. They recently won TopTenREVIEWS’ Gold Award and count among their customers the folks at EA Sports and Applebees. But at $79 per month plus another $500 per month for an assigned short code or $1000 for a vanity code of your own choosing, SumoText is not within reach for the small and mid-sized business, and that’s why it doesn’t quite get the cake…

1. EZ Texting

The grand prize goes to: EZ Texting. At $10 monthly fee and a wealth of features, EZ Texting is unbeatable. From a features standpoint, it also has everything a mobile marketer could possibly want – including the ability to send messages pretty much within a minute of registering. EZ Texting charges a monthly fee to keyword leasing, starting at around $25 per keyword and if you have more than two, its adds up. But, at the end of the day, you get great value for your money.
