A New Era of Gift-Giving Using Givatude

Meg Rahner June 6, 2014

Even for those who procrastinate on buying gifts, in this day and age online and in-app purchasing has never been easier! If you want to purchase an app from the iTunes App Store and gift it to someone directly, you can do so by following these steps from a recent post. Separate apps also exist to allow you to easily purchase something thoughtful for your friends or family.

A particular app that is gaining traction and stands out from competitors is Givatude, a real-time, location-based gifting app with a built in rewards system. Once you confirm that it’s okay for the app to access your Facebook and / or contacts, it pulls friends’ birthdays and loads all of your contacts into the app for an easy transaction. Givatude works with local merchants to access a variety of different gifts, whether it be food, drinks, or experiences, and then allows you to easily purchase and send directly to your friend via their phone or Facebook. The process is fun, aesthetically pleasing, and simple – a powerful combination for an app. Here’s a snapshot into how the app works:

1. Open the app and you are notified of friend’s birthdays, pulled from Facebook.

2. Sort through a variety of food, drink, and treat options, as well as different activities or spa treatments.

3. Choose the merchant you’re interested in, and then choose from a variety of options or services it’s offering.

4. Choose what you’d like to gift your friend and click purchase. The gift will be sent directly to your friend’s phone and you’re able to customize your own message.

Givatude not only allows you to easily say ‘thank you’ or ‘happy birthday’ and with a few swipes puts a smile on the recipient’s face, but it also benefits the user. For every gift giving action, the user ‘win’ points. You can use those points to grow your giving attitude; hence ‘Givatude’. The more you give, the more you earn!

Merchants are also incentivized to take part in Givatude. Merchants are not charged for gifts and are able to decide what they would like to be paid for the products they showcase on Givatude. They get paid up front at the time of the gifting as well. Benefits? This brings in potentially new customers, gets their name in front of thousands of users, and regardless of whether the recipient takes advantage of their gift, they get paid.

Givatude has a 5 star rating and is available for free download in the iTunes App Store.
