Mobile Promotional Opportunities for Marketers

As more applications are being developing for mobile devices, so too are marketing opportunities.  The possibilities are virtually endless! We really don’t know what’s in store for the future but what’s available today has led to greater opportunities to engage and create experiences for customers and prospects.  Let’s have a look at some mobile marketing techniques that can be implemented today.

Company APPs

The variety of apps being developed has allowed marketers to reach out to consumers in a wide variety of ways including geo-tracking and monitoring social-media.  Here are some marketing practices that are in use today:

  • A company’s app can push coupons or discounts to a customer when they check-in at their store or restaurant location.
  • A restaurant app can follow consumers social media posts.  For example if a negative comment is posted about a competitor on Facebook, the restaurant can push out a discount or coupon to their smartphone.
  • Push out advertisements on IM/Chat apps.  People who use mobile IM/Chat apps are more interested in receiving advertisements than other mobile users.

Near Field Communication (NFC)

This technology will allow a consumer to pay for their purchases at a card reader using their smartphone.  After doing some research, we’ve found that it is predicted that customers will happily visit a store that has implemented card reader technology.  This is another mobile marketing technology that shouldn’t be overlooked by marketers.

QR Codes

QR codes allow a consumer to scan a code (unique to a company and their individual products) using their mobile device.  Product information can be retrieved via a website.  Offers, discounts and coupons can be offered online and if a consumer wants to know how to put together a product, they can scan the code on their smartphone. This technology will continue to grow rapidly and it would be wise for a company to invest in this technology.

Augmented Reality

Augmented Reality or enhanced reality is a view of an environment which is complemented by sensory input including graphics, GPS data, sound or video.  This technology allows the marketer to provide information that allows the user to become interactive with their surrounding world.  Augmented reality apps have already been developed and some great examples can be found at Deep Know How.

While many mobile marketing techniques are already in use, there are many more innovative trends yet to be realized.  This is an exciting time for marketers and anticipating future opportunities to influence consumers purchases will be key to staying ahead of the competition.
