Mobile marketing is all about real time. Please indulge me in a mobile marketing thought piece…. Data is everything to a marketer these days. Mobile advertising is an elusive thing for many individuals and companies alike. With mobile marketing advertising we have to think about every moment as “the moment.” And we’ve seen that real time situations often mean dynamic interactive ad units can be generated. Will marketers be there to meet the demand? Everything about the way the messaging is done needs to be shaken up for mobile. There are new approval processes, new workflows, even your doctor is there for you. Mobile means the complete restructuring of the budget and performance of everything for marketers.
Adapting to the new world reaps huge rewards for mobile marketers. Microsoft says that mobile internet usage is projected to overtake desktop internet usage by 2014. I believe social is just as important to mobile as advertising, if not more so. Did you know that we send nearly half a billion tweets per day? How many are cat related, I wonder? Many companies are using publicly available social media data to measure sentiment and even make predictions about future behavior.
Tweeting about something as simple as whether you are hungry or not can help shape mobile monetization. Targeting possibilities differ for them whether you are stationary vs walking, there could be different mobile ads showing! It’s been shown that certain ads can get an uplift in clicks by whether a person is moving or not… I don’t know about you, but that freaks me out just a bit. 🙂
Consumers are now beginning to signal social intent more than they are typing into search engines. People are abandoning laptop computers for tablets… We have big rewards if we are able to detect what the data is saying with mobile. If we find ways to use that information in mobile marketing, we’ll take one dollar in the budget and turn it into twenty.
I really believe that those who do the work will be rewarded. I think we’re going to see that small, nimble companies can beat the big ones when they adapt faster. Mobile is a great equalizer, make sure to get your fair share!
