Matthew Inman of The Oatmeal at SXSW
What do cats, Sriracha rooster sauce and Nikola Tesla have in common? A giant fire breathing Tesla powered robot cat, close, but if you said Matthew Inman of The Oatmeal you would be on the right path. Matthew has been featured in Time Magazine and published several books, including his most recent book, “How to tell if your cat is plotting to kill you”, as well, as his on going support to the Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe.
SXSW is a wonderful place to showcase how creativity, art, and a dash of comedy can make the world a happier and better place. Matthew does this through his website, that is why he has been invited as an interactive keynote speaker for SXSW this year.
Matthews first appearance at SXSW was in 2011 covering his experiences on becoming a successful viral marketer. Working for himself while becoming a full time cartoonist allowed Matthew to create several widely popular quizzes, such as “How Many Cannibals Could My Body Feed?” and his most successful quiz, “How Many Five Year Olds Could You Take In A Fight?” Just releasing these quizzes onto the world wide web wasn’t his only goal in mind, each quiz allowed users to link or embed the results into any website or blog. This created a wide variety of SEO keyword ranking advantages. Matthew’s idea of attaching humor to a product that you normally wouldn’t associate humor with quickly gained web exposure.
The Oatmeal had about a quarter of a billion page views in 2010, three years later and The Oatmeal isn’t showing any sign of slowing down soon.
