While we rarely cover apps themselves, we thought it would be nice to take a little break and talk about a few random mobile applications that we love here at MobileFOMO! There’s a common thread here, too – most of these apps were borne out of SXSW. 🙂
Rovio is a company that is widely known for their Angry Birds franchise, however, this game ups the ante. Angry Birds Space introduces many new elements and graphic enhancements that will only add to the excitement of everybody’s favorite disgruntled avian creature game.
Cardspring is an app that allows vendors and business owners to create discounts and coupons for the services and products they offer the public. This is done by having the user enter their credit card information into the app, securely of course, and then when it comes time to pay for the product or service, the discount that they have signed up for inside of the app will be applied to the purchase, and the remaining balance will be paid by the card. This app can save a great deal of time and money both for vendors and for customers.
Have you ever found yourself wondering where exactly your friends are? With Highlight, you can tell which friends you are close to on a brilliant graphical interface. This app can also help you find new friends through suggestions and likes. This social “people discovery” or “social discovery” app is a great way to keep track of friends and make new ones. Social discovery is one of the most amazing things possible with mobile apps.
We’ve had some fun with Swoon over the past few months. It’s like FlipChat but for a more sophisticated crowd. We staff tested this one extensively and found it to be pretty entertaining. You simply give it a thumbs up or down when a person’s photo appears. It matches you based on Facebook data. Most people feed a ton of information into their Facebook, so it makes total sense to use that for matching.
Marvel, the incredibly prolific and inventive comic book company has created an app that will be able to do so much more than provide words on a page for you to read. Marvel AR uses augmented reality technology in order to provide extra information or even animation to the comics you’re already reading. This app can be a great way to add an extra level of interactivity to already fascinating comics. All the user has to do is point their phone to designated spots on a comic book page, and it comes to life with information and characters that speak and move.
Instagram is an incredibly popular website as well as application for iOS. However, it’s now making its way to Android. All of the beautiful filters and effects can now be enjoyed by Android users. Now everyone who has a smartphone can bask in the glow of being an amateur photographer.
